Priscacara Fish

Green River formation.

The name Priscacara means “primitive head”. It is extinct with no modern relatives. Fossil records show that it appears to have been a schooling fish. It can be identified by its sunfish- like body and its thick dorsal and anal spines, which may have provided protections from its being swallowed from behind.
