African headrests are functional items, which support one’s head in the manner of a pillow and allow the preservation of intricate hairstyles. Many variations of this type have been used across Africa.

Headrests range from extremely ornate to elegantly simple. This example is more the latter. It is composed of a dark, heavy wood which has been waxed and fire tempered.
