A cast looped and socketed axe head from Middle Europe, were bronze with a flared edge and various designs. In the Middle Bronze Age (1500 – 1200 BC) smaller forms of axes (palstaves) began to appear alongside the first ‘socketed’ spearheads.

“Socketed” – attached to the shaft by a hole in the base.
